You have a domain and you’ve set up your website hosting. The next step is to get WordPress installed so that you can start building your website for your new business.
Let’s not waste another moment, read on to get started!
What is WordPress?
WordPress is one of the most popular and easiest ways of creating a website. And in technical terms, it is what you call a Content Management System (CMS). Meaning it allows you to store and display your content without needing to know how to program.
It is much cheaper and more flexible than the alternative website builders, like Shopify, Squarespace, or Wix. This is because WordPress is open-source, so you can purchase your own website hosting and use WordPress for free.
WordPress is in our opinion one of the most flexible CMS options out there and it is what allows us to build our custom websites for you!
So now you know a little more about WordPress, it is time to get it installed!
Steps to install WordPress
Installing WordPress is really easy thanks to your hosting provider.
We will be working through the steps to install WordPress by referencing our GreenGeeks hosting, but the steps will be much the same no matter which hosting provider you have chosen.

1. Sign in to your hosting
Locate your login details (hopefully not plastered across the back of your hand…) and sign in to your website hosting account.

2. Locate the cPanel
You will need to access your cPanel from within your hosting account. This is normally very easy to access directly from your hosting dashboard.

3. Find Softaculous
Use the search bar within your cPanel to find Softaculous. It may also be found by searching for ‘WordPress’.

4. Fill in your WordPress settings
Now you are inside the Softaculous WordPress installer you will see a button that says ‘Install’. Click on this and start filling out the details for your website.
You can add your website name and a tagline, but don’t worry, this can be changed again at a later date from within your website. Next to this, you need to create a user to sign in to the WordPress website with. You can also update your email address at a later date.
Avoid the quick install and scroll down to find a few more sections to fill out…
Some WordPress installers will ask if you want to download a theme with your install, we recommend the blank ‘Hello Elementor’ theme if you are going to be adding one of our templates to your WordPress install shortly. Don’t worry if you cannot see this theme on the installer, it can be done at a later date.
You may also be asked if you want to download any plugins. For instance, GreenGeeks recommends downloading Litespeed Cache which we’d recommend doing. Any other plugins can also be decided upon at a later date from within your website.

5. Install WordPress
Once ready press the install button at the bottom of the page. This may take a few moments to do and then you’ll see a page that provides you with your website’s login URL.

6. Sign in to your WordPress website
You’ll now have a working WordPress website complete with its own login. The WordPress installer should give you the login, but if it hasn’t/you’ve lost it, then you’ll find your login at:
your domain URL + /wp-admin/
E.g. www.myveganwebsite.com/wp-admin/
You will need to use the login details that you created during the installation set-up.
Once logged in, you’ll be met with your new WordPress website’s backend dashboard. Congrats!
